The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has set up a 155-member Campaign Advisory Council chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to prepare for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.
The council, announced on Tuesday, includes former governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Ganduje, along with three former military administrators of the state: Habibu Shuaibu, Lawan Jafaru-Isa and Yakubu Bako.
State APC Chairman Umar Doguwa said the body brings together prominent party leaders and elected officials who will offer strategic direction for the party’s campaign efforts.
Other members include Deputy President of the Senate Barau Jibrin, Senators Kawu Sumaila and Rufa’i Hanga, as well as all APC candidates and members of the House of Representatives from Kano.
The council will provide strategic oversight for the party’s operational 2027 Campaign Directorate, whose full composition and leadership are expected to be announced later.
The move comes as political parties ramp up preparations for the 2027 polls. It follows the Independent National Electoral Commission’s release of its final list of governorship candidates for Kano, which included Yusuf.
Opposition parties, including the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have yet to announce their own campaign councils.
The NDC is also dealing with the omission of its governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, from INEC’s list and is pursuing legal and administrative steps to resolve the issue.
