Two senior police officers have been killed after hoodlums attacked the divisional police headquarters in Urratta-Eziukwu, Aba, Abia state.
In a statement, Maureen Chinaka, police spokesperson in
Abia, said the assailants attacked the facility with explosives at about 2:26
am on Saturday, October 17, triggering a fire that damaged part of the building
and a patrol van.
Chinaka said three police inspectors also sustained injuries
in the attack and are receiving medical attention.
She added that the attackers did not cart away any firearms
or ammunition during the incident.
According to her, Wilfred Afolabi, commissioner of police in
Abia, personally led an operational team, comprising tactical units of the
command, to the area.
“The team combed the surrounding environment and restored
calm, while intensified security operations and monitoring are ongoing to
apprehend the perpetrators,” Chinaka said.
She said the commissioner of police had condemned the attack
and assured the public that the perpetrators would not escape justice.
“He emphasised that the command would deploy all necessary
operational and intelligence resources to identify and apprehend those
responsible, assuring that the hoodlums will be brought to justice,” the police
spokesperson said.
