The Federal Government has released about ₦4.04 billion in severance benefits to 600 former employees of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited.
The payment, announced on Monday, October 19, 2026, by the Federal Ministry of Finance, covers verified beneficiaries in Batches 010 and 011. It forms the second tranche of the government’s ongoing severance settlement programme.
According to a statement by Maryann Duke, Senior Special Assistant on Communications and Press Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the gross entitlements for the 600 workers totalled ₦4,251,043,000.19.
After deductions of ₦212,552,150.01, the net amount released stood at ₦4,038,490,850.18.
This latest disbursement follows the ₦18 billion paid in September 2026 to 2,700 former Nigeria Airways workers across the first nine batches.
Combined, the two tranches have so far covered 3,300 ex-employees and more than ₦22 billion.
The government said payments are being made in batches after verification of employment records to ensure only eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements and to protect public funds.
“The Federal Government recognises the prolonged wait experienced by former employees and their families and remains committed to resolving legitimate outstanding claims through an orderly and transparent process,” the statement noted.
Nigeria Airways, once the country’s national carrier, stopped operations in 2003 and was liquidated in 2004, leaving thousands of former workers without their full severance benefits for over two decades.
The Ministry of Finance reaffirmed that it would continue supporting the settlement of approved government obligations through established payment procedures.
