President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing him as a dedicated public servant whose influence extended well beyond his years in office.
In a condolence message issued on Monday, Tinubu highlighted Uduaghan’s enduring contributions to democratic governance and public service after leaving office in 2015.
“After his tenure as governor, Dr. Uduaghan continued to feature prominently in Delta State’s political and socio-economic landscape, contributing to the sustenance of democratic governance and the advancement of public service in Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
Uduaghan, who died at the age of 71, served as Delta State governor from 2007 to 2015. Before his election, he held key roles as Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the State Government.
Reflecting on his eight-year administration, Tinubu noted that Uduaghan’s leadership was marked by efforts to improve infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and the welfare of Deltans.
“Dr. Uduaghan was a public servant whose leadership was devoted to Delta State’s development and service to our nation,” Tinubu added.
The President urged the people of Delta State to find strength in the late governor’s legacy of service and the relationships he built across Nigeria’s political and social spheres.
Tinubu extended condolences to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli; his children; his cousin and former Delta Governor James Ibori; as well as friends and political associates.
“On behalf of my family, the Government, and the people of Nigeria, I extend my deepest sympathies to his wife, Roli; his children; his cousin, former Governor James Ibori; and friends and political associates whose lives he impacted.
May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn him,” Tinubu said.
