President Bola Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and forwarded their names to the Senate for confirmation.
The nominations, announced on Friday, comprise three returning executive directors and three new appointees who are expected to serve five-year terms upon legislative approval.
According to a statement issued by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the nominations were conveyed in a letter dated October 30, 2026, and sent to the Senate for consideration.
The three executive directors re-nominated for another term are Abiodun Adeniji, Executive Director, Finance and Accounts; Ogbugo Ukoha, Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Dr Mustapha Lamorde, Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
The new nominees include Mobolaji Musa as Executive Director, Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie as Executive Director, Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib as Executive Director, Corporate Services and Administration.
The Presidency said the appointments are aimed at strengthening the leadership and operational capacity of the petroleum regulatory authority.
“The President urged the Senate to consider the nominations expeditiously to ensure institutional continuity and strengthen the Authority’s oversight capacity,” the statement said.
Tinubu also approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board and Legal Adviser, subject to the completion of statutory requirements outlined under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.
The latest nominations come several months after the President appointed Rabiu Umar as the Chief Executive of the NMDPRA in April, as part of efforts to enhance regulation and oversight within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
If confirmed by the Senate, the nominees will join the authority’s leadership team at a time when the industry continues to implement reforms introduced under the Petroleum Industry Act.
