Tinubu Mourns Nollywood Veteran Francis Duru

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru, describing his passing at the age of 57 as a painful loss to Nigeria’s film industry and creative community.

In a condolence message issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu acknowledged Duru’s significant role in shaping Nollywood’s artistic identity, nurturing emerging talent, and projecting Nigerian culture and values to audiences worldwide.

“President Tinubu notes that the legacies of artists who devote their lives to entertaining, educating, and inspiring society endure long after their departure. He affirms that Duru’s contributions to Nollywood will remain part of the industry’s rich history and cultural heritage,” the statement read.

The President prayed for the peaceful repose of Duru’s soul and asked God to comfort his family, friends, colleagues, and admirers.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s recognition of the arts and entertainment industry as a vital contributor to national development, cultural preservation, and Nigeria’s global image.

Duru’s family announced his death on Instagram earlier on Friday, revealing that he passed away after a brief illness.

His career spanned decades, earning him respect as one of Nollywood’s most enduring figures.
