Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have killed 15 villagers who went into the bush to collect firewood in Marte LGA of Borno state on Thursday.
Nahum Daso, police spokesperson in Borno, who confirmed the
attacked to TheCable on Friday, said Nasiru Abdulmajid, commissioner of police
in the state, had ordered an investigation into the incident.
“From the preliminary report we got from the divisional
police officer it indicated that 15 individuals were unfortunately killed by
suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists,” Daso said.
The attack occurred just as troops of Operation Hadin Kai
(OPHK) killed 16 insurgents in Adamawa state in a two-day operation.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency
publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the operations conducted between
September 30 and October 1 covered Sector 4 area and involved ground ambushes,
a precision air strike and defensive operations against terrorist attacks.
Makama said troops repelled also coordinated attacks by
insurgents on the 226 Battalion in Garkida and the 232 Battalion in Garaha.
The publication said the troops responded with superior
firepower, forcing the attackers to abort their mission and withdraw.
Makama said three soldiers were killed during the
engagements, while wounded personnel were evacuated and were receiving medical
treatment.
