Dr. Sokonte Davies, a former governorship aspirant and close ally of ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, has announced his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) back to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections in Rivers State.
Davies, who was a founding member of the APC before joining the ADC, said his decision followed “extensive consultations” with family, political associates, constituents, and elders.
In a statement titled “Return to the Progressive Family: My Decision to Rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he explained that the move was driven by patriotic conviction and a desire to contribute to the political and economic development of Rivers State.
He pledged loyalty to the APC and reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s founding ideals of democracy, social justice, true federalism, and inclusive growth.
“For me, this is a homecoming,” Davies declared, noting that the APC remains the most suitable platform for progressive governance and national unity.
Davies also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the ADC for the opportunity to serve, stressing that he bore no ill will toward his former party.
He thanked Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his warm reception, and APC National Vice Chairman, Chief Victor Giadom, for facilitating his return.
Calling on his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, Davies urged those who share his political ideals to join the APC in building a stronger platform ahead of the 2027 polls.
He promised to deploy his experience, networks, and goodwill to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and strengthen the APC’s vision for Rivers State.
This defection adds momentum to ongoing political realignments in Rivers State as parties prepare for the 2027 governorship race.
