The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation after a viral video allegedly showed officers from the Makinde Divisional Headquarters extorting ₦20,000 from a dispatch rider.
According to a statement released on Monday, the command confirmed awareness of the footage, which was secretly recorded by the rider using a hidden camera.
The officers involved have since reported to the Command Headquarters for questioning, following directives from Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai. While the rider claims he was forced to pay ₦20,000, the police have not independently verified the amount.
The statement assured the public that disciplinary action would be taken against any officer found guilty.
This incident comes just weeks after another Lagos resident, Nasir Ahmed, accused three policemen of extorting him along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, highlighting growing concerns over recurring cases of police misconduct in the state.
The command emphasized that investigations are ongoing and pledged transparency in handling the matter.
