The Kano State Police Command has presented cheques worth ₦7.57 million to the families and next-of-kin of 17 police officers who died in active service.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori handed over the cheques at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano, on Monday.
The payments, totalling ₦7,573,231.83, were made under the Group Life Assurance Scheme as part of the Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu’s welfare initiative.
According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the gesture reflects the IGP’s commitment to supporting families of officers who lost their lives while performing lawful duties.
Bakori, speaking on behalf of the IGP, assured beneficiaries that the sacrifices of their loved ones would not be forgotten. He urged them to use the funds wisely and maintain ties with the friends and colleagues of the deceased officers.
“The end of their life should not be the end of the good relationship you had with their friends,” he said, pledging continued support from the command.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, retired ASP Ado Sule, who received a cheque for his late wife, expressed gratitude to the police leadership and prayed for the repose of the fallen officers.
Senior officers, management staff, and families of the deceased attended the ceremony, which shows the police force’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of both serving and fallen personnel.
