The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect, Udochukwu Okafor, popularly known as Small-Moto, during an intelligence-led operation in Ebenebe community, Awka North Local Government Area.
Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, carried out the operation on Saturday, leading to Okafor’s capture.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspect allegedly snatched a pump-action firearm from a vigilante operative in Ebenebe.
He also reportedly admitted to possessing a locally made short gun used in criminal operations with his gang.
Ikenga noted that Okafor had been on the command’s wanted list for alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, cult-related violence, and secessionist-linked offences.
He further confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as Aro-Baggers.
The police said investigations are ongoing to recover the firearms mentioned by the suspect and to track down other gang members still at large.
“The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. The command assures residents that efforts to identify and apprehend individuals involved in criminal activities will be sustained in the interest of public safety and security,” Ikenga stated.
