Onanuga Hails Tinubu’s Economic Gains, Says 33 Govs’ Support Proves Progress

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has strongly defended the administration’s economic performance, pointing to the backing of 33 state governors and asserting that food prices have fallen while foreign investors return to Nigeria.

In a post on Friday, Onanuga responded to a clip shared by Arise TV on X that featured Obafemi George, a member of the Media and Strategic Communications Committee of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.

He accused television anchors of repeatedly promoting the opposition’s claim that nothing positive had changed since Tinubu took office in 2023.

“TV anchors keep pushing the opposition’s narrative that nothing has changed, positively, indeed, massively, since 2023. Their position has become so ridiculous that they keep parroting the old narrative, and now they question the NBS data on receding inflation. I will advise them to revisit the markets,” Onanuga wrote.

He claimed a bag of rice that once sold for about ₦120,000 had dropped below ₦50,000, and was available for ₦45,000 in his hometown.

Onanuga also highlighted Nigeria’s foreign reserves nearing $60 billion, improved access to foreign exchange for businesses to import raw materials and equipment, and the ability of Nigerians to use naira cards abroad as evidence of progress.

Rejecting suggestions that returning investors were mainly portfolio players, he insisted foreign direct investment was bringing capital into the economy and creating jobs.“

These facts are clear to anyone not blinded by partisanship and hatred for the leader who has laid a solid foundation for the economy and is poised to take the nation to a higher level of shared prosperity,” he added.
