NAFDAC Raids Lagos Factory Producing Bitters With Cough Syrup Registration Number

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an illegal herbal product factory in Agege, Lagos State, where bitters were allegedly being sold using a registration number assigned to a cough syrup.

The agency disclosed the raid in a statement on its official X page, noting that the operation followed a report published by The Guardian on October 10, 2026, about herbal products carrying falsified NAFDAC numbers.

According to NAFDAC, its investigative team conducted surveillance before storming the facility, where three variants of Asheitu Adams Bitters were found bearing Registration Number A7-1827L.

Checks on the agency’s NAPAMS portal confirmed that the number actually belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup, exposing its fraudulent use.

The company’s manager was arrested for interrogation, while the Managing Director was absent during the raid.

NAFDAC urged the public to report suspected illegal manufacturing activities through its call centre lines 0800-1-623322 or 0700-1-623322, or via email at reforms@nafdac.gov.ng.

This latest enforcement action comes after recent seizures of counterfeit alcoholic beverages worth billions of naira in Lagos markets, underscoring NAFDAC’s intensified crackdown on fake and unsafe products nationwide.
