Elon Musk Accuses Ukraine of Misusing Starlink for Drone Strikes

Elon Musk has accused Ukraine of breaching Starlink’s terms of service by deploying the satellite network for offensive drone operations.

In a post on X, the SpaceX founder claimed the Ukrainian military used Starlink “for drone strikes to kill people,” but noted that the loophole enabling such use was closed last week.

Musk emphasized that Starlink was designed as a civilian system, not a weapon, warning that violations could lead to service termination.

Despite this, he acknowledged the network’s vital role in Ukraine’s defense, describing it as “the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up.”

He added that disabling Starlink would cause Ukraine’s frontline to “collapse immediately.”

Ukraine’s Defence Minister Yevgeniy Khmara reported improvements in Starlink and its military-grade counterpart, Starshield, with speeds exceeding 400 km/h.

He stressed the importance of stable connections for drone operations, logistics, and frontline communications.

The satellite network remains at the center of disputes between Kyiv and Washington. President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused the U.S. of undermining Ukraine’s defenses by limiting Starlink’s speed and failing to warn of incoming Russian missile strikes.

Khmara credited Zelensky’s firm stance for recent improvements, saying it was “bearing fruit.”

Musk’s shifting position on Ukraine since Russia’s 2022 invasion has fueled controversy, though he insists disruptions are the responsibility of the U.S. government, not SpaceX.
