A 55-year-old motorist walked away uninjured after a train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos.
The incident involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda with registration number EKY 902 JT. The vehicle suffered extensive damage in the impact.
Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), working with security personnel, rescued the driver and removed the wrecked car from the tracks. This allowed the train to resume its journey. Traffic congestion, however, persisted in the PWD area after the crash.
LASTMA said the damaged vehicle was handed over to security agencies for investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the swift joint response by officials and security personnel. He stressed the importance of effective collaboration during emergencies involving railway lines and nearby roads.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists to remain vigilant when approaching railway crossings and areas used by trains. He specifically warned drivers not to cross tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion, noting that ignoring railway safety rules can lead to serious and irreversible consequences.LASTMA also reminded road users to obey traffic regulations and railway safety guidelines, emphasising that protecting human life must come first in every driving decision.
