Seyi Makinde, presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), says the party’s manifesto will address concerns raised by Nigerians during its town hall meetings across the six geopolitical zones.
Makinde, who spoke on Thursday at the party’s final town
hall meeting in Enugu, said the party would release the manifesto on November
4, after incorporating citizens’ expectations and proposed solutions to the
country’s challenges.
He said his campaign team had visited the north-east,
north-west, north-central, south-south, south-west and south-east to gather
public input rather than develop policies without consulting Nigerians.
“In that manifesto, you will find the issues you have raised
with us and our proposed solutions to the challenges confronting our country,”
Makinde said.
The Oyo governor said the party’s reset agenda rests on four
pillars: resetting the economy, restructuring the security architecture,
reforming education and resetting the socio-political space, noting that
rebuilding trust between leaders and citizens is central to addressing
Nigeria’s problems.
He urged the people of the south-east to reject ethnic and
religious divisions, arguing poverty, hunger, and unemployment affect citizens
regardless of background.
Yusuf Dantelle, APM national chairman, identified reliable
energy supply and transportation as critical to economic growth.
The party chairman asked President Bola Tinubu to withdraw
from the 2027 presidential race and support Makinde, saying this would allow
the APM standard-bearer to complete what he described as the remaining four
years of the southern presidential term.
Lawal Daura, the party’s vice-presidential candidate, said
democracy would not thrive where politics is militarised and security
politicised.
Daura said the party’s 16-point agenda is designed to
address the country’s challenges through a comprehensive approach, adding that
the APM is committed to reforms, improving citizens’ welfare and building a
lasting national legacy.
