Kano-based entertainer and political musician Jamilu Garko has rejected his appointment as an assistant director in the entertainment category of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s campaign council, saying he was not consulted before his name was included on the list.
Garko, who chairs the Da Hannuna campaign team under the Arewa for Asiwaju group, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday night.
He said he would not participate in the council’s activities until he had been properly consulted about the appointment.
According to him, if the governor’s team had contacted him beforehand, he would have recommended another person for the position rather than accepting it himself.
Garko’s name appeared at number 169 on the list of members of the governor’s campaign council under the entertainment category.
While appreciating Yusuf for considering him worthy of the role, Garko said he would continue to support the All Progressives Congress and work towards its success in the 2027 general elections.
“I appreciate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for finding me worthy of the appointment. However, I was not consulted before my name was included in the list, and I will not accept the appointment until consulted,” he said.
He added: “I will continue to work assiduously for the success of the APC, but I will not participate in Governor Yusuf’s campaign council.”
Garko, a prominent entertainer in Northern Nigeria known for using music in political campaigns, reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and the Arewa for Asiwaju group ahead of the 2027 polls.
