Jay-Z, the ace US rapper, is set to headline the Super Bowl halftime show in California in 2027.
The National Football League (NFL), Roc Nation, and Apple
Music announced on Monday that Jay-Z will lead the halftime festivities at SoFi
Stadium in Los Angeles on February 14, 2027.
In a statement, Jay-Z called performing at the Super Bowl
halftime show a dream come true, reflecting on his three-decade journey in
music and culture.
“From reasonable doubt to standing on the Super Bowl
Halftime stage, this has been a journey. Thirty years of music, work, and
culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come
true,” he said.
Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner, expressed his excitement
about Jay-Z performing at the show,
He also praised the rapper’s impact on the event and
revealing he had long hoped Jay-Z would take the stage himself.
“For several years, we’ve had the privilege of working
closely with Jay-Z and Roc Nation, and I’ve seen the extraordinary impact he
has had on the Super Bowl Halftime Show.” Goodell said.
“When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to
produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one
day, whenever the moment felt right to him. I couldn’t be more excited for fans
around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he
will bring to the Super Bowl stage.”
Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment company, will executive
produce the halftime show. The company has partnered with the NFL as its live
music entertainment strategist since 2019, but this will be the rapper’s first
time performing at the event.
Part of Roc Nation’s role involves selecting the Super Bowl
halftime performer each year, leading to speculation that Jay-Z selected
himself for the show.
In March, the rapper dismissed claims that Kendrick Lamar’s
selection to perform at last year’s Super Bowl was intended to undermine Drake.
