Actress Wumi Toriola has fired back at Desola Afod after the estranged wife of actor-director Kunle Afod warned Yoruba film practitioners against addressing her by her first name.
In an earlier video circulating
online, Desola, 44, warned actors against calling her by her name, insisting
she deserved more respect because of her age.
“This is the last warning to some of all these actresses and
actors in the movie industry who will see me and just call me by my name. These
people have taken me for granted in their industry. I am 44 years old now. I
know age is just a number,” she said.
Toriola, however, objected to Desola’s remarks, arguing that
her reference to “the industry” insulted an entire profession rather than the
individuals she had a problem with.
Sharing a video online,
the actress wrote: “Enough is enough… Which one is ‘ti won ba ku won ki fi age
won si’? That’s too much to say, Desola…”
Toriola urged Desola to name the specific people she
believed had disrespected her instead of making a sweeping statement about the
industry.
The actress also advised Desola to use her father’s surname
if she had issues bearing her estranged husband’s name, adding that she needed
to learn how to manage fame and her public image.
“I find it insulting and disrespectful that you said ‘Awon
onitiata’. If you have issues with anybody, kindly put their names and
pictures. ‘Awon onitiata’ is a body that covers what I have worked for and earn
from. I will not allow you to disrespect it,” she said.
“If you feel the name ‘Afod’ you bear is giving you problem,
you can bear your father’s name.
“You are not the only razz person.
“We were both born in Agege,everyone is just packaging
themselves.”
In February, Afod addressed widespread speculation that his
marriage to Desola is in turmoil.
