Rumours of Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings' death spread across social media on Wednesday, prompting confusion and concern among fans.
The rumours began after Pelumi Olajengbesi, the celebrity
lawyer and convener of the coalition of public interests lawyers and advocates,
shared a photo of the singer on Instagram while lamenting the deaths of young
men and women.
He also pleaded for God’s mercy for Toluwanisings, a
statement some netizens interpreted as confirmation of the singer’s death.
“My God! What a life! No, Lord! We plead for Your mercy upon
Toluwanisings. I am deeply troubled by the deaths of young men and women. This
is not God’s plan for us,” he wrote.
Ayo Ajewole, the Nigerian comedian better known as Woli
Agba, responded to the reports on Instagram, urging people to pray for the
singer rather than jump to conclusions.
“Please hold on. Please don’t conclude. We are trusting God. Please.”
Another user identified as Fowooflagos revealed that
Toluwanisings was alive and receiving medical treatment, contrary to reports of
his death.
“Sources confirmed Toluwanisings is now receiving medical
treatment in an undisclosed medical center,” the caption reads.
The cause of his reported hospitalisation remains unknown,
though reports suggest he slumped.
Toluwanisings, born Olayemi Bolaji, is known for his
energetic praise songs, Yoruba-inspired gospel music, and contemporary worship
recordings.
His popular hits include ‘A Very Big God’, ‘Eleda’, and ‘I’m
Not Alone’.
His journey into music began at a young age when he
discovered his passion for singing in church choirs.
He has collaborated with notable gospel artistes including
Tosin Bee and Adeyinka Alaseyori.
