The paternal grandmother of Olayemi Bolaji, the late gospel singer better known as Toluwanisings, has insisted that he be buried at his house in Ibadan, Oyo, vowing to curse anyone who goes against her wish.
The demand comes after the singer’s death on October 14,
with reports claiming Elizabeth, his wife, prefers a cemetery burial.
In an interview with media personality Dunmininu, the
singer’s grandmother expressed her firm stance, saying she does not want him
buried in a cemetery or where his mother was laid to rest.
“I don’t want him to be buried in a cemetery or where his
mother was buried. I want him to be buried at his house in Ibadan. I will curse
whoever goes against that,” she declared.
The grandmother also opened up about her limited contact
with the singer in his later years.
She revealed she last saw him over five years ago and was
unaware of his career or the house he had built. She said he had provided her
with financial support for only three months.
The grandmother also recounted how the singer’s sibling
discouraged her from contacting him when she needed help buying a phone, after
which they stopped communicating.
“I didn’t know he was a singer; I only found out recently. I
wasn’t aware that he had built a house either. I couldn’t reach him, and I last
saw him over five years ago, before he eventually died, when he came to my
house with his wife,” she said.
“At some point, I asked a lady here to help me call him.
When I eventually spoke to him, he apologised for not visiting me, saying it
was because of his busy work schedule. After that, he sent me N10,000 three
times, but he later stopped giving me any allowance. I wanted to reach out to
him at some point because I needed a phone, but his sibling told me not to call
him. Since then, I haven’t spoken to him.
Earlier, Toluwanisings’ paternal uncle called for his burial
to be postponed pending an investigation into the cause of his death.
