Political commentator Isaac Fayose has called on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore to work with other opposition parties in challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fayose made the appeal while reacting to the reported attack on Sowore and members of his campaign team in Ekiti State on Friday. Speaking in a video shared on his Facebook page, Fayose said he had limited sympathy for Sowore over the incident, arguing that the activist had frequently directed criticism at opposition figures, particularly the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), rather than focusing on the ruling party.
According to him, opposition politicians should unite against what he described as a common political opponent, the APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Fayose maintained that recent incidents involving opposition members in different parts of the country highlighted the need for greater cooperation among parties seeking political change.
He argued that while opposition groups had previously faced political challenges and alleged intimidation, there had been little collective response, adding that Sowore’s experience should serve as a reminder of the importance of solidarity.
“Instead of attacking Peter Obi, you can see now that we have a bigger enemy. APC led by President Bola Tinubu is the enemy of our country,” Fayose said.
He accused the ruling party of undermining democratic values and urged opposition politicians to set aside their differences in order to confront what he described as threats to Nigeria’s democracy.
Fayose further asserted that Sowore’s reported ordeal demonstrated that opposition figures could face similar challenges regardless of their political affiliations.
He called on the AAC candidate to focus on building alliances with other opposition leaders and supporters, insisting that a united front would be more effective in challenging the APC in the next election cycle.
The comments come amid ongoing reactions to the alleged attack on Sowore and members of his team in Ekiti State, an incident that has generated debate among political actors and supporters across the country.
