Yinka Quadri, the veteran Yoruba actor, has praised President Bola Tinubu for his “longstanding support of Nollywood practitioners,” describing him as a “leader who has consistently attended to the needs of the film industry”.
In an interview with African A List, Quadri recalled how
Tinubu, during his tenure as Lagos state governor, came to the aid of actors
facing health crises and bereavement.
“Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been taking care of Nollywood
actors since he was the governor of Lagos state. When Baba Suwe was sick,
Asiwaju settled all the hospital bills in Lagos and abroad,” he said.
“When Moji Olaiya passed away and we wanted to bring her
body to Nigeria, we approached him to give us $15,000, but he gave us $25,000.
He always attended to our needs.”
Quadri also credited the Tinubu administration with
infrastructure and welfare initiatives, including road projects in the
South-West, “prompt” pension payments and the establishment of student loans.
“He has fixed some major roads in the South-West. Even
though it is not enough, if past presidents had been doing this, Nigeria would
have been better,” he said.
“He pays pensioners their money on time and he has
established school loans. If we give him another chance, he will do more.”
The ace Yoruba actor also opened up about his wife’s
tolerance of his relationships with actresses, revealing that she cared for
them despite knowing about the affairs.
The film star said his wife Sadiat was fully aware of his
relationships with other actresses but chose to remain cordial with them, even
when some of them approached her to gossip about him.
He added that she would welcome and look after some of the
actresses at their home after late-night film productions, knowing they were
involved with him.
