Bala-Bello Tinka, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State, has promised free fuel for commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke Napep) operators if elected in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a radio interview in Gombe on Thursday, Tinka said the initiative would serve as a palliative measure to cushion the economic hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.
To mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, he also announced a one-day free fuel distribution for Okada and Keke operators at designated filling stations across Gombe on October 1, 2026.
“On October 1st, from 6 am to 6 pm, any Okada rider and Keke Napep operator should go to our designated filling stations and collect fuel free of charge. This is our little way of celebrating with Nigerians and reducing their suffering,” Tinka said.
Policy ProposalsBeyond fuel relief, Tinka outlined other key promises:Healthcare: Free medical treatment for children under five and residents above 70.
Agriculture: Overhaul of fertiliser procurement by sourcing from local wholesalers to boost the state’s economy and support agro-dealers.
Infrastructure: Prioritisation of indigenous contractors for government projects, with outsiders engaged only when necessary.
Water supply: Permanent solutions to Gombe’s perennial water shortages through a comprehensive study of root causes.
Tinka urged residents to back the ADC in the 2027 elections, promising an inclusive administration focused on welfare, local empowerment, and sustainable development.
