A former secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Funmilayo Ogun, has thrown her weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign for the 2027 general elections after defecting to the All Progressives Congress.
Ogun, who also served as commissioner for works under former Governor Ayodele Fayose, said in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Saturday that her decision to switch parties was aimed at strengthening Tinubu’s support base.
She described the APC as the most effective platform for advancing her political goals and delivering benefits to the people.
“I have gone round and seen that the APC remains the best vehicle I can use to advance my political career and to also bring dividends to the people,” she said.
“I am really committed to joining the party to rally support for President Bola Tinubu to win the 2027 reelection and to also help Governor Oyebanji achieve his agenda for the state.”
Ogun added that she and her supporters across the state had fully embraced the APC. They plan to launch intensive campaigns in all wards of Ido/Osi Local Government Area while working closely with existing party leaders.
“We are not going to disappoint you, because we are not here as rivals, but to contribute our own quota,” she assured. She cited her more than 16 years of private-sector experience, combined with her time as works commissioner, as preparation for contributing meaningfully to the APC.
Ogun also expressed gratitude to former governors Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni and Fayose for their leadership and support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s efforts to develop the state, noting that “history will continue to be kind to them.”
The APC chairman in Ido/Osi Local Government Area, Adewumi Aina, welcomed Ogun and her followers on behalf of the party’s State Working Committee.
He described her as a “big fish” who would strengthen the party’s presence in the area and urged existing members to cooperate fully with the new entrants, assuring them of equal rights and privileges.
