The federal government says it has disbursed N38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions nationwide under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund.
In a statement on Sunday, Efe Ovuakporie, director of press
relations at the ministry of finance, said the disbursement covers 79
universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education.
Ovuakporie said the fund is intended to address
infrastructure gaps and improve learning facilities across the institutions.
According to the statement, N28.5 billion, representing 73.2
percent of the total funds released, was allocated to universities, while
polytechnics received N5.8 billion, representing 14.9 percent.
Colleges of education received the remaining N4.7 billion,
representing 12.1 percent.
“The intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s
efforts to address the needs of public universities and support the
implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between
the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU),”
the statement reads.
“The funds are expected to enable beneficiary institutions
to commence or advance approved projects addressing critical infrastructure and
other identified institutional needs, with the overall objective of
strengthening the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.”
Ovuakporie said the disbursement underscores the importance
of effective coordination between the finance ministry, the ministry of
education and beneficiary institutions to ensure that approved public funding
translates into tangible improvements in educational infrastructure and
institutional capacity.
For further information on the beneficiary institutions and
their respective allocations, the ministry advised members of the public to
