The Ministry of Health says the Ebola patient in Nigeria is showing signs of recovery.
The ministry made the announcement on Friday in its Ebola response update posted on X, adding that there is currently no evidence of community transmission.
The ministry said contact tracing, quarantine and monitoring are ongoing, alongside measures to strengthen health facility preparedness and coordinate the national response.
The development comes two days after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said the patient, a Ugandan-born woman, had developed multi-organ failure after contracting the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.
“The Federal Government has provided an update on the confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria, reporting that the patient is showing signs of recovery. There is currently no evidence of community spread,” the statement reads.
“Contact tracing, quarantine and monitoring continue, alongside strengthened national coordination, health facility preparedness and public health measures.
“Nigerians are encouraged to follow recommended precautions, rely on information from recognised health authorities and avoid sharing unverified reports.”
Nigeria confirmed the case on October 20 after laboratory tests detected the virus in the woman, who had received treatment at a private hospital in Abuja.
The case has sparked a dispute over her nationality and travel history.
While Ugandan authorities initially described her as Nigerian, Jean Kaseya, director-general of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, said she was born in Uganda.
On Thursday, Switzerland’s federal department of foreign affairs said the patient is a Ugandan-born wife of a Swiss diplomat based in Abuja and was believed to have contracted the virus during a trip to Uganda.
The department said her husband, who travelled with her, was in isolation but had not developed symptoms.
The source of her infection remains under investigation, with authorities examining her travel history.
The federal government has urged Nigerians to follow public health precautions and rely on information from recognised health authorities.
