Deputy Senate Leader Denies N10bn Fraud Allegation

Deputy Senate Leader Lola Ashiru has denied claims that he personally received N10 billion for road construction projects.

Speaking on Saturday during the commissioning of a 48-shop modern market in Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Ashiru dismissed the allegation as inaccurate and misleading.

He also highlighted several infrastructure projects he said he had facilitated across his senatorial district.

The lawmaker stressed that government projects are funded through established budgetary processes and are executed, supervised, and monitored by the relevant ministries, departments, and agencies.

“If indeed N10bn had been paid into my personal account, as alleged, would the relevant government agencies, including the ICPC and EFCC, not have questions to ask?” he asked.

Ashiru added that appropriation acts are publicly available and provide a clear, verifiable record of approved projects and their allocations.

He noted that he had been advised the allegation could amount to defamation of character, but chose not to pursue legal action out of respect for traditional institutions.
