Suspected bandits have killed a police inspector during an attack on travellers in the Shagari area of Katsina State, underscoring the persistent insecurity on rural roads in the region
.According to eyewitness accounts shared on X, the armed men were spotted moving through farmlands toward Sanyin Nawal village early in the morning.
They reportedly stopped vehicles, robbed passengers, and later rested at a nearby pond where they ate food and drank Maltina before setting a motorcycle ablaze.
Later in the day, around Maghrib, the attackers allegedly ambushed another passenger vehicle and opened fire.
Inspector Isah Muhammad Girkau was struck by a bullet during the assault and died from his injuries.Despite ongoing security operations, several roads leading to rural communities in Katsina remain vulnerable to bandit attacks, leaving travellers exposed to violence and disruption.
