Army Repels ISWAP Attack in Borno, Neutralises 25 Terrorists


Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Kukawa, Borno State, killing more than 25 terrorists and recovering weapons.


The insurgents launched the attack on the 101 Special Forces Battalion from four directions, but soldiers, supported by the Air Component, responded with superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres that overwhelmed the attackers.


Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed in a statement that preliminary assessments showed over 25 terrorists were neutralised, with 14 bodies recovered so far. 


Six AK-47 rifles and other ammunition were seized during the operation.The Army acknowledged that some soldiers lost their lives in the encounter and extended condolences to their families, praising their courage and sacrifice.


Military authorities said the successful defence demonstrated the resilience of troops in the North-East theatre and highlighted the effectiveness of joint air-ground coordination. 


They pledged to sustain pressure on terrorist groups through aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations, and coordinated offensives with other security agencies.


According to the Army, ongoing operations aim to dismantle terrorist networks, protect communities, and safeguard national security.
