Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Ibezi, a former member of the House of Representatives and prominent financier of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has officially left the party and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Ibezi, popularly known as Ochiagha Idemili, announced his defection on Saturday, October 10, 2026, pledging support for the presidential ambition of Mr. Peter Obi and the re-election bid of Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District.
At a ceremony attended by Umeh and other NDC leaders, Ibezi was formally welcomed into the party alongside hundreds of his loyal supporters from Idemili.
His departure is seen as a significant setback for APGA, particularly in areas where he commands strong grassroots influence.Speaking at the reception, Ibezi assured his new party of his commitment to deliver electoral victories in his constituency:
“We will work hard to deliver all NDC candidates in our area. That is the assurance I am giving, and together with my supporters, we will make it happen.”
He also declared support for NDC candidates in Idemili North and South, as well as Orumba North and South federal constituencies.
Senator Umeh described Ibezi as a seasoned grassroots politician whose ability to mobilize voters would strengthen the NDC’s chances in the upcoming elections.
