The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship positions in the Kogi state LGA election.
The polls were held on Saturday across the state’s 21 LGAs
and 239 wards.
Mamman Nda-Eri, chairman of the Kogi State Independent
Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), announced the results on Sunday after the
collation exercise at the commission’s headquarters in Lokoja.
“From the results so far announced by the power conferred on
me as the chairman of Kogis state Independent Electoral Commission, I hereby
declare that the 21 local governments chairmen have been swept by the APC and
239 wards have been swept also by the APC for the councilorship,” he said.
“They are hereby returned elected as chairman and councilors
of the various local governments and various wards in Kogi state.”
This is not the first time the ruling party has dominated an
entire local government election.
In June, the APC won all chairmanship and councillorship
seats in the Gombe LGA election.
Announcing the outcome, Abdullahi Garba, chairman of the
Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC), had said the ruling
party won all 24 chairmanship positions and 240 councillorship seats across the
state.
Garba said the election marked the first to be conducted
across 24 administrative councils, up from 11 in the previous cycle, following
the creation of 13 local council development areas (LCDAs).
