Anambra CP Queries DPO, Two Officers Over Disappearance of Armed Robbery Suspect

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has ordered the immediate issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of 3-3 Police Station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police over the disappearance of an armed robbery suspect.

Ama also directed the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police in connection with the incident.

The suspect was reportedly arrested and taken to the station but can no longer be accounted for.In a statement on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the commissioner issued the directives after personally interviewing the complainant and the police officers involved.

The action followed a viral video alleging that the arrested armed robbery suspect could not be accounted for at the station.

The CP described the allegation as serious and capable of undermining public confidence in the police. He stressed that the command would not condone any act of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established procedures by any officer.

Ama has directed the command’s X-Squad to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts, including the roles and responsibilities of the officers involved.

The commissioner further disclosed that necessary operational measures have been put in place to facilitate the rearrest of the suspect.

He assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be communicated once established.

Ikenga said the CP also cautioned members of the public against circulating unverified information that could prejudice the ongoing investigation, noting that facts must be established through due process.

He reiterated that accountability remains a core principle of the command’s leadership and that no police officer is above scrutiny or the established disciplinary process of the Nigeria Police Force.
