Former Rivers State governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of diverting oil wells belonging to Cross River State during his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom.
Amaechi made the allegation at a town hall meeting in Calabar, organised to mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He insisted his criticism was not partisan but based on Akpabio’s alleged role in the transfer of the oil wells.“I am not calling Akpabio out because he is in the APC. I am calling him out because he knows that I know what he did. Tell him Amaechi says Akpabio knows what he did,” Amaechi declared.
He urged Cross River residents to demand accountability from Akpabio, claiming the Senate President had also attempted to claim oil wells belonging to Rivers State but lost the case in court.
Addressing questions about the non-extension of the railway line to Calabar during his tenure as transport minister, Amaechi explained that plans had been made for a coastal railway from Lagos to Calabar, with a spur to Obudu Cattle Ranch.
However, the $11 billion project was stalled due to lack of funds.Amaechi further criticised the Tinubu administration’s decision to embark on a $16 billion coastal road project, arguing that the government should have prioritised the railway line instead.
