Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has predicted that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), will defeat President Bola Tinubu in parts of southern Nigeria in the 2027 election.
Momodu made the remarks on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time.He claimed that Tinubu is more focused on Lagos than on the broader Yoruba population and alleged that people close to the president would not want a second term for the current administration.
“Peter Obi will humiliate Tinubu and all his supporters in the South-East and some parts of the South-South, and that’s dangerous for Tinubu,” Momodu said.
He argued that Tinubu would need to secure all three southern regions to win, after which he would still face a difficult battle in the North. Momodu noted that Tinubu previously benefited from support linked to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who was later blamed for many of the country’s problems after leaving office.
“The Yorubas are suffering just like those from the North-West, North-East, North-Central, South-East and South-South,” Momodu added.
