Political tension is resurfacing in Rivers State as allies of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara begin picking governorship forms.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike dismissed claims that Governor Fubara has been sidelined in the state’s political structure.
He emphasized that Fubara remains “an integral and active part of the ruling political team.”Wike explained that Fubara’s quiet disposition should not be mistaken for exclusion, noting:
“Fubara has not been pushed aside. He is fully a member of the Rainbow Coalition and playing his part in ensuring President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.”
The minister revealed that Fubara recently hosted a high-level strategic meeting at his residence, attended by key stakeholders, underscoring his influence in shaping Rivers’ political direction.
As Rivers campaign coordinator, Wike confirmed that lists of committee members have been submitted, with Fubara positioned as one of the coalition’s primary leaders. He attributed past tensions in the state to external actors and “ungrateful elements,” but stressed that reconciliation has prevailed.
On speculation about Fubara’s political future, Wike said while he cannot nominate ministers, the governor’s standing remains strong.
He reiterated that talk of friction between them is unfounded, insisting both leaders are united in safeguarding Rivers’ political stability.Wike further explained that the Rainbow Coalition was designed to unite factions across party lines—including APC members and others—under a common agenda to support Tinubu and avoid divisive litigations.
Defending the coalition’s strategy for sharing offices and candidacies, Wike described it as “political ingenuity” tailored to local peculiarities while maintaining solidarity. “We look at the peculiarities of areas and say, all of us are together and supporters of Mr President,” he said.
