The All Progressives Congress has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will defeat African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election, including in Atiku’s home state of Adamawa.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of women trained under the Tinubu-Shettima Village-to-Village campaign in Abuja on Wednesday, APC Deputy National Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, predicted that the former vice-president would struggle to secure victory even at his polling unit.
“I don’t think that Atiku can disrupt the North-East. Why? Even Adamawa, his hometown, he will not win, even at his polling unit. I will assure you of that,” Dalori said. Atiku, the ADC presidential candidate, hails from Adamawa State and has traditionally enjoyed strong political support in the region.
Dalori attributed his confidence to his experience in grassroots politics and his understanding of the political landscape across the North-East. He argued that major infrastructure projects being executed by the Federal Government would boost the APC’s popularity ahead of the election.
According to him, projects such as the Gombe-Bauchi Road, the Bauchi-Maiduguri Road and the Maiduguri-Gamboru Ngala corridor connecting Nigeria to Chad would influence voters’ decisions in the region. He also pointed to the continuation of previously abandoned sections of the Maiduguri-Biu Road as evidence of the administration’s commitment to development.
The APC chieftain maintained that voting decisions in 2027 would be shaped by government performance rather than candidates’ states of origin or previous election results. In the 2023 presidential election, Atiku, then the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, won Adamawa and several other North-East states, while Tinubu emerged victorious nationally.
Dalori further defended the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, including the removal of petrol subsidy and reforms in the foreign exchange market. While acknowledging public concerns over the rising cost of living, he described the measures as necessary steps toward economic stability and long-term growth.
He also highlighted the political value of Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s roots in the North-East.
“Shettima is from Borno, from the North-East. He is our son. Because of that, we can do everything to ensure that Tinubu comes back for a second term,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Village-to-Village campaign, Ambassador Farida Musa Jauro, pledged to mobilise more than one million votes for President Tinubu across northern Nigeria through grassroots political engagement.
Jauro said her support for Tinubu dates back to a childhood encounter with him in Lagos, which left a lasting impression on her leadership perception.
Also speaking at the event, the campaign’s Director of Planning, Engr. Aishata Aliyu Umar, disclosed that 1,000 women benefited from vocational training sponsored by Jauro. She encouraged the graduates to establish businesses, form cooperative groups and transfer their skills to other women within their communities.
Director of the Village-to-Village initiative, Alhaji Salisu Sheriff, similarly urged participants to use the training to improve their economic prospects and contribute to local development.
