President Bola Tinubu's Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, has said there is no plan to postpone the 2027 general elections, contrary to the "lies" of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Olusegun said Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC,
have nothing to do with any such plan, if there is one.
He was responding to Atiku's comments that the Tinubu-led
APC wants to move the 2027 election date due to the party's experience during
the presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna State.
Atiku said: "I've heard that they want to change the
election date because of what happened in Kaduna. Whatever the reason, they
must hold the election, and when they do, we will vote them out."
Dismissing Atiku's claim, Olusegun said the Independent
National Electoral Commission, INEC, has improved under Tinubu's leadership,
hence such allegation should be discountenanced.
He said: "This is how much INEC has improved under the
President, and this will not change in 2027.
President Tinubu is fully committed to the independence of
the electoral body.
"There is no plan to delay the 2027 general elections,
and if there is, the President and our party, the APC, are completely unaware
of it and not involved in any such plan.
"Contrary to Alhaji's false claims, the Kaduna rally
was also a big success.
"Party members came from all the local government areas
in the state without any promises or rewards to show their support for Mr
President, who has delivered many infrastructure projects, life-improving
programs, and provided many solutions to insecurity in his state."
