President Bola Tinubu has praised Remi Tinubu, his wife and
first lady, on her 66th birthday, describing her as his “truest friend and
confidante” who has stood by him through difficult periods.
In a birthday message released on Monday, Tinubu said Remi
has accompanied him with “patience, grace and uncommon courage” throughout
their years together.
“Today, I celebrate the woman who has walked beside me with
patience, grace and uncommon courage,” he said.
The president cited a Yoruba saying, “Ìyàwó rere ni adé ọkọ
rẹ̀”, which translates to “a good wife is her husband’s crown”, as well as the
biblical description of a virtuous woman.
He said Remi has given those words meaning in his life by
standing by him through different seasons.
“The burdens that were mine to bear often found their way
onto your shoulders. The thoughts I could not put into words somehow found
their way to you,” he said.
Tinubu said Remi has remained calm and prayerful during
difficult periods.
“Through all these years, you have remained the one who
truly understands me. There have been nights when your presence alone was
counsel enough,” he said.
Tinubu also praised Remi for speaking honestly to him, even
when her advice was difficult to hear.
“I call you my truest friend and confidante because you
speak the truth plainly, even on the days I would rather not hear it,” he said.
The president added that their children and grandchildren
have grown under the influence of her prayers, faith and values of kindness.
The president also commended Remi for her compassion,
generosity and work supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
He said her humanitarian efforts have touched young people,
widows, elderly citizens and women farmers across the country.
Tinubu recalled her work with the New Era Foundation during
their stint on the saddle in Lagos and the Renewed Hope Initiative in his
presidency.
“Your care has reached many young boys and girls, widows,
elderly citizens and women farmers across the country,” he said.
According to Tinubu, Remi’s compassion has not been limited
by tribe, region or religion.
“I know the prayers you offer for people whose names you may
never know. I also know many whom you have helped without ever meeting them.
For you, compassion has never recognised the boundaries of tribe, region or
religion,” he said.
‘I WOULD CHOOSE THE SAME ROAD THAT LED ME TO YOU’
Reflecting on their years together, Tinubu said their
journey involved difficult decisions, sacrifices, laughter and prayer.
“A long journey teaches a man the true value of a good
partner. We have travelled a long road together,” he said.
Tinubu said he would make the same choice if he had the
opportunity to begin their journey again.
“If life returned me to the beginning, I would choose the
same road that led me to you. Through every mile, my heart has always remained
at home with you,” he said.
The president thanked Remi for the life they have built
together and prayed for many more years of good health and happiness.
“Happy 66th birthday, my darling Oluremi. I pray that God
Almighty will grant you many more years in good health and joy,” he added.
