A Nigerian X user known as Enori has apologised for creating and circulating an AI-generated image that falsely claimed an itel Power Tank had exploded.
Enori shared the image earlier in the week, alleging the portable power station exploded due to overcharging.
The post gained significant attention before she deleted it and admitted the incident never occurred.In a public apology, she said:
“Hi, good morning, everybody. I made a post three days ago claiming that itel solar fan exploded and that it was overcharging, which I used AI to create. It didn’t happen, and I’m very, very sorry to the itel team and to the itel customers.”
She further apologised to anyone who believed the claim or was affected by it, stating that it was never her intention to damage the brand.
“I’m very, very sorry. I know what it feels like to have a brand and for someone to just try to bring it down… I didn’t know it would go this far. I didn’t even think of it, and I’ll never do it again,” she added.
Enori confirmed the image was entirely fabricated: “To the incoming customers that may have felt deceived, or angry, or felt like or believed that it was real, it was not real. It was AI and I deleted it.”
The apology followed a strong warning from itel, which described the image as fabricated and threatened legal action against anyone deliberately using AI-generated or misleading content to spread false information about its products.
In a disclaimer posted on X, the company said it would not tolerate attempts to discredit its brand or mislead customers and would pursue legal remedies where necessary to protect its reputation.
The itel Power Tank is a portable power station designed as a backup during electricity outages.
The company states it uses lithium iron phosphate batteries and includes multiple safety features such as battery management, over-temperature, over-voltage, overload and short-circuit protection.
No verified incident has linked an itel Power Tank to any explosion of the kind shown in the AI-generated image.
