VIDEO: Motorists spend the night in Lagos-Ibadan expressway gridlock

Motorists and commuters were trapped in overnight gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday following a multiple-vehicle crash at Kara Bridge.

The crash, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, involved seven vehicles and disrupted traffic towards Ogun state.

The resulting congestion stretched beyond the Long Bridge towards Magboro and into Lagos, as ongoing repair works on the bridge further compounded the situation.

Road users reported spending between six and 14 hours stuck in traffic along the stretch from Ojota and Berger to the outward corridors towards Mowe and Ibafo.

In an attempt to escape the gridlock, some motorists reportedly drove against traffic, further obstructing vehicles heading towards Lagos.

Videos circulating on social media on Wednesday showed commuters lamenting after spending several hours trapped in the gridlock.

“Lagos is so unreal mahn. Been stuck in traffic since 8 pm yesterday and I’m just still at Berger,” One X user wrote.

The user attributed the prolonged gridlock to motorists driving against traffic, leaving only one lane for vehicles heading towards Lagos.
