Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed that President Bola Tinubu’s pictures be prominently displayed on the First Niger Bridge linking Anambra and Delta states.
Umahi gave the order on Wednesday during an inspection of ongoing rehabilitation works at the Onitsha end of the bridge. He said the President deserved recognition for his swift intervention in the project.
“The South-South and South-East SSAs to Mr. President have to beautify and color the bridge with the President’s pictures. The President deserves to be appreciated for the quick intervention and the quality of work being done here,” Umahi stated.
The minister also ordered the removal of all unauthorized advertisements on the bridge, stressing that any future adverts must receive approval from the Ministry of Works.
In addition, Umahi announced plans to install more solar lights and complete the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system on the bridge, linking it to the Second Niger Bridge.
He revealed that a committee had been set up to evaluate the bridge’s condition both above and below water level.
The First Niger Bridge, which connects Onitsha in Anambra State with Asaba in Delta State, is undergoing rehabilitation after vandals damaged some of its structural components.
Umahi had earlier said the bridge would remain closed until repairs were completed to ensure safety.
