Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West (Operation FANSAN YAMMA) successfully prevented a suspected terrorist attack and recovered an AK-47 rifle during operations in Kaduna State between September 23 and 24, 2026.
Acting on intelligence about terrorists moving through the bushes near Rijana in Kachia Local Government Area, Sector 1 troops quickly set up an ambush.
They engaged the group on sight. A follow-up search of the area yielded one AK-47 rifle, a magazine with 13 rounds of ammunition, a magazine carrier, a military jungle hat, and other items.
In a separate clearance operation the same day in Awom village (also in Kachia LGA), aimed at denying criminals and terrorists safe havens, the troops arrested a suspect identified as Jacob.
He was found with a fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition. The suspect is in military custody and is cooperating with investigators.
Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the JTF North-West, said Theatre Command praised the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and rapid response.
He added that the forces remain committed to offensive and clearance operations to stop terrorist activity, restrict criminal freedom of movement, and protect communities in the joint operations area.
