Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has warned against the killing of Nigerians in the country.
In a statement posted on his X handle, Fani-Kayode urged the
South African government to bring the perpetrators of xenophobic attacks on
Nigerians to justice.
This comes after three Nigerian citizens were killed in the
country in September alone.
The former Minister of Aviation condemned the killings and
prayed for the souls of the victims to rest in peace.
“It has been brought to my attention by the Nigerian Consul
in Johannesburg that three more Nigerians have been murdered in three separate
incidents in South Africa in the space of four days this month alone.
“These killings took place on the 18th, 20th and 21st of
September, respectively.
“This brings the total number of Nigerians murdered in South
Africa this year alone to 12, while 112 have been murdered since 2022, with 32
of the victims being killed by members of the South African security forces.
“Not one person has been brought to justice or convicted for
any of these crimes. I condemn these killings and once again appeal to the
South African authorities to bring those responsible for them to justice and to
protect our people,” he wrote.
