South Africa’s President Withdraws from Official Duties Over Health Issues


South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been booked off from public engagements due to ill health, the Presidency announced on Wednesday.


Ramaphosa, who returned from the BRICS Summit in India on Monday, has been advised by his medical team to rest and recover.  

  

 “Due to ill health, President Cyril Ramaphosa is currently booked off from public engagements,” the Presidency said in a statement. 


“President Ramaphosa, who returned from the BRICS Summit in India on Monday, has been advised by his medical team to rest and recover.”


Where possible, the President has asked the relevant ministers to represent him at scheduled public engagements. 


No further details were provided about the nature of his illness or how long he is expected to remain away from public duties.  

  

 The development comes as Deputy President Paul Mashatile continues to recover from a minor medical procedure and remains away from official duties on doctors’ advice.
