Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has granted a pardon to popular native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, widely known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, and appointed him Ambassador for Youth Reformation.
Nwangwu was among several native doctors arrested last year over allegations of promoting money rituals, get-rich-quick schemes and related practices. Earlier this year, he entered a plea bargain with the state government.
A court sentenced him to 11 months in prison at the Nigeria Correctional Facility in Amawbia, Anambra State.
As part of the terms, he was required to renounce his previous fetish practices and commit to serving as an ambassador for youth reformation.
He accepted those conditions and had been serving his sentence until Friday, when Soludo exercised the prerogative of mercy to pardon him.
The governor made the announcement during a visit to the prison.Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Reformation, Dr Nelson Omenugha, confirmed the development.
He thanked Soludo for extending mercy to Nwangwu and assigning him the new role.
“This is the heart of Youth Reformation: not just punishment, but correction, restoration, a new purpose and A New Onye Anambra,” Omenugha said.
