Hon. Abba Aliyu Tilde, Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Shehu Buba Umar (Bauchi South), has resigned with immediate effect, pointing to a breakdown in mutual respect, communication and trust in their working relationship.
Tilde conveyed the decision in a letter dated September 6, 2026.The resignation coincides with renewed claims linking Senator Buba to banditry and terrorism.
The senator has consistently rejected the accusations, calling them fabricated, politically driven and designed to harm his reputation. Recent social-media videos and reports alleged that suspected bandit leaders visited his residence. Buba has dismissed the materials as manipulated and stated that he has begun legal action against those he says are behind a smear campaign.
In his resignation letter, Tilde did not accuse the senator of any involvement in the allegations or connect his departure directly to the controversy. He instead described repeated instances of being sidelined and a lack of recognition for his role.
He specifically cited a recent visit by Senator Buba to his ward, during which the senator held a meeting with residents without notifying him beforehand. “Given my position and my connection to the people of the ward, I found this deeply disrespectful and hurtful. I believe that, at the very least, I deserved to be informed and carried along,” Tilde wrote.
He said the episode, along with other experiences, made it impossible for him to continue serving effectively. “I cannot continue in a position where I feel that there is little regard for my contributions or for the relationship between us,” he stated.
Tilde emphasized that any working relationship in politics and public service should rest on mutual respect, communication, trust and recognition of each other’s roles. “Unfortunately, I no longer feel that these principles exist in our working relationship,” he added.
Describing the resignation as “the most honourable decision” open to him, Tilde said he was leaving with a clear conscience after giving his best in the role. He thanked the senator for the opportunity to serve and wished him success going forward.
