Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni has argued that the $156 million reportedly left behind by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is sufficient to clear the alleged N127 million debt claimed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Oseni noted that even if Obi had taken loans during his tenure, the foreign reserves he handed over would more than cover the liabilities.
“Let’s assume Peter Obi actually collected the loan, as the Anambra State Government claims. If you remove the amount he left in the state’s account before leaving office, the foreign currency alone would be enough to clear the entire debt Governor Soludo claims he owes,” Oseni said.
The debate stems from Anambra’s recently published debt records, which suggested Obi left behind financial obligations.
In response, Obi’s camp, through Obidient Movement coordinator Yunusa Tanko, released handover documents dated March 17, 2024, showing a net positive balance of over N86 billion.
Oseni’s remarks add weight to Obi’s defense, intensifying the political back-and-forth between the former governor and Soludo’s administration.
