The Nigerian Police Force High Command has placed its formations nationwide on red alert following intelligence reports of planned terrorist attacks on worship centres, schools, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps, and other public places.
According to reports, security agencies intercepted intelligence indicating the movement of armed groups from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State, raising concerns about possible coordinated strikes on vulnerable targets.
A police wireless message dated September 13, 2026, and marked “Security General” with the instruction “Treat as Very Important,” was circulated to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police across Zones 1–17, Mobile Police units, counter-terrorism squads, and Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The operational order, issued by the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters in Abuja, directed formations to intensify surveillance and preventive measures to counter the threat before attacks occur.
Efforts to obtain an official response from Force Spokesperson CSP Ani Iniedu were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The alert underscores heightened concerns over security across Nigeria, particularly in areas vulnerable to extremist violence.
