The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed Tuesday, September 29, for the conduct of a fresh governorship primary election in Gombe state.
In a public notice released on Friday, Abdulkadir Dukku, PDP
publicity secretary in Gombe, asked all eligible delegates to assemble at their
respective wards on Tuesday, September 29, for a fresh primary election and
cast their votes for their preferred aspirants.
“The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Gombe state wishes to
inform all its card-carrying members that there will be a gubernatorial repeat
primary election on Tuesday, 29th September, 2026,” the notice reads.
Dukku urged party members, supporters and other stakeholders
to cooperate with the exercise and maintain peace and order throughout the
process.

The development follows the nullification of the emergence
of Isa Pantami as the PDP candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the
state by the federal high court in Gombe on Thursday.
The court, in a judgement delivered by Amina Aliyu Mohammed,
the presiding judge, also ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh governorship
primary in compliance with its constitution, guidelines and relevant electoral
laws.
The ruling followed a suit filed by Usman Garry, a PDP
governorship aspirant, who challenged the process through which Pantami emerged
as the party’s candidate.
In May, Pantami withdrew from the All Progressives Congress
(APC) governorship primary election scheduled for May 21 in Gombe.
Pantami attributed his withdrawal from the race to alleged
breaches of the electoral process.
He eventually joined the PDP and emerged as the party’s 2027
governorship candidate in Gombe.
